I have facilitated many strategic awaydays, both for whole organisations and for divisions, departments and teams.

The high-level strategic framework is simple enough:

Where are we now?

Where do we want to be?

How do we get there?

I work with people to help them to:

Ask the right questions

Under each of the main headings there will be a range of questions to consider, including

  1. how do we know we are addressing the right questions?

  2. what actions do we need to take to conclude this phase of the process?

Resist shortcuts

Do the hard work of drilling down into each question sufficiently that all are confident it has been adequately addressed - or that steps are in place to ensure that it will be.

Look carefully into the shadows

What are we not talking about that we should be talking about? 

Why is that? 

How do we make that discussable?

How do we enable truth-telling by all involved?

Generate real commitment as part of the process

What will it take to ensure everyone leaves motivated to take the necessary actions to achieve the strategic plan?
